Wire Reflections

This art project started out as a interest in the invisible disease that is diabetes. As I know quite alot about this disease through family who has the disease. It fascinates me how this invisible disease can be a secret. Yet internally something different is happening within the body. I wanted to represent this using sculpture .

The decision to printmaker using wire was progress in my practice as you can see the sculpture and prints gain confidence as the weeks go by.

Through looking at Eve Hesse’ s work at this point I had to make formal discussions as to weather I wanted my work to reflect Eve Hesse. I also made the unconscious decision that I no longer needed the test strips to judge weather the organic form is diseased or not. through printmaking the decision can be made by the viewer as the form becomes more organic the audience guess that it is part of the human form

At this point the decision to make it into parts of the body and less abstract. so the audience could see the organic structure of the veins, then gain their own judgement of what they want the image to be. Through experimenting through this process I have discovered that I am a 2d artist that wants to represent this work in a 3 dimensional way.

The questions I now face are how to hang these prints? How do I space them out ?  Weather I want the audience to walk through them. Or if I want it to be in the middle of the room so the audience can go through the work? The influences on my work at this point have also changed due to the nature of the printmaking. I realise I could have also printed onto other forms as well as the tracing paper I prefer the tracing paper due to the fact when the light shines on it is more aesthetically pleasing to the audience than a clear background.

So you can see the doubts here . However Create 13 did happen ! It was a huge success pictures from the opening night show how pact it was . I managed to resolve my piece by hanging the prints  using simple frames so not to limit the prints . The comments that I received by anonymous viewers of the gallery were very positive .  Comments such as

” The prints and sculpture took all the attention , Best work in the school house !”

“The artist has really concentrated on organic materials to contrast the prints “

“The body creeps me out “

Thank you to everyone that made it a success ! Hear is to create 13 this is who we are !
